One Pattonville kindergartner is now enjoying her dream bedroom thanks to a group of Pattonville High School students and staff. Earlier this year, Pattonville earned a $500 “Ingenuity Grant” from the Northwest Chamber of Commerce for “Extreme Makeover-Pattonville Education,” a project dreamed up by Pattonville teachers to involve a number of students real-world experiences. Pattonville students marketed the program districtwide and solicited nominations to makeover the bedroom of one Pattonville student who has overcome a challenge or hardship. The high school chose Parkwood Elementary kindergartner Hannah M. for the makeover. Hannah’s mother has been battling cancer since she was pregnant with Hannah. Hannah’s room was remade in a purple fairytale theme featuring Tinkerbell; students completed their work on Monday. Several high school organizations assisted with this project. The marketing classes promoted the grant project, while the TV production classes are developing a news story to show to the Northwest Chamber membership. The housing and interior design class created the new layout of the room, and the woodworking class built the furniture. Students also sewed new pillows for the
room and designed a large wall mirror. Students then painted, cleaned and set-up the bedroom. Porter Paints donated paint for the room, as well. The grant was modeled after the popular television show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Some of the Pattonville High School students who worked on the room makeover are shown with Hannah M., a Parkwood Elementary kindergartner who won the room makeover.
