Letter to parents regarding swine flu case
Monday, June 1, 2009
Dear Pattonville parents -
Late Friday afternoon, we were notified Pattonville has one new, confirmed case of swine flu (H1N1 flu) involving a Holman Middle School student. This student has been out of school since Wednesday. Hopefully you received an automated phone call on your home phone alerting you to this news on Friday. We also posted the phone message on our web site.

Over the weekend, our custodial crews worked to disinfect the school, including each classroom, restroom, locker room, library, gym, computer lab, fitness room and the nurse’s office. School continued as normal today (Monday, June 1), as the Centers for Disease Control no longer recommends schools routinely close due to confirmed or suspected cases of H1N1. This flu is treated like any other seasonal flu that impacts schools every year. In the case of seasonal influenza, schools typically only close if a significant number of students or staff become ill and school functioning becomes disrupted. This is not the case, therefore school remains open for our last two days of the school year.

Our administration and nurses will continue to work with the St. Louis County Health Department on issues related to this illness. County experts assure us that there is no need for alarm, as this illness is like any other flu that normally impacts individuals every flu season. Please be assured that we will continue to do whatever we can to minimize the impact of this illness in our schools and keep our students and staff healthy and safe.

Sincerely,
Michael Fulton, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
