At Pattonville High School, the International Club, Spanish National Honor Society, Student Council, German Club, French classes and Modern Language Department are joining forces, hoping to raise $5,000 to donate to the American Red Cross to assist earthquake victims. To donate, contact Silvia Hilker (shilker@psdr3.org) or Maxine Gyles-Allen (mgyles-allen@psdr3.org) at Pattonville High School at (314) 213-8051, extension 8410 and 8411 respectively.
At Pattonville Heights Middle School, the Chain Links Club is spearheading an effort to collect clothing and supplies for disaster relief. All grade levels are bringing in summer clothing, while each grade level has been assigned to collect different items, such as toiletries, bandages and First Aid items, and bottled water. Also this week, Pattonville Heights students paid 50 cents to wear a hat one day and $1 to wear pajama pants to school another day as a fund-raiser for relief efforts.
Students at Bridgeway Elementary and Willow Brook Elementary held hat days for Haiti. Students donated money to wear a hat to school, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. Bridgeway students are also assembling health kits that include items such as toothbrushes, combs, hand towels and soap. At Remington Traditional School, first-graders are collecting money and placing it in a large piggy bank to send to the Red Cross. Remington's middle school Student Council students are also hosting a school-wide hat day.
The high school groups who are collecting funds plan to keep up their relief efforts in the coming months. At the end of February, they hope to conduct a drive to collect toys, school supplies and art supplies for schools and orphanages in Haiti. The idea is to help children get back to school and return to some semblance of normalcy. In March and April, the high school will collect weather-appropriate clothing, shoes, personal items and non-perishable foods.
